The Independent Film Critics of America is a creative organization whose purpose was to bring together film critics of differing backgrounds and experiences united in their love of film and film reviewing. Since the internet and social media we have seen a growth in film critics from all walks of life, who are pursing film criticism independently.
The goal of this organization was to provide a place for independent critics from across America to share their love of filmmaking, movie reviews and the ability to amplify their voices.
The IFCA was founded by journalist and film critic Byron Lafayette who believes that Film criticism is made all the richer by the diverse background of critics, yet he noticed that independent critic organizations were mostly centered in cities and states, thus the IFCA was born.
